El Paso Corporation

Mission: Monitor Multiple Locations Efficiently

As part of the renovation of its 32-story headquarters in downtown Houston, the El Paso Corporation needed robust, versatile communications and control systems that would facilitate collaboration, training and data sharing.

The El Paso Corporation is one of the largest independent natural gas producers in North America, and needed to be able to monitor relevant markets as well as its pipelines.

AVI-SPL had to complete this extensive integration even as El Paso carried on its normal business functions. So not only would the engineers and technicians have to work around other trades, they would have to ensure minimal interruption to staff.

Action: Pardon Our Progress

“Our employees are enjoying the benefits of the TVs, HD video, and conference rooms where quality equipment makes for more productive meetings.” – Tom LeClare, principal IT analyst, El Paso Corporation

AVI-SPL integrated solutions that include video conferencing, control systems, digital signage and networked audio-video distribution. The team worked in phases that encompassed two or three floors, while employees based in those areas were temporarily relocated to adjacent levels. This strategy minimized the disruption to El Paso’s business operations.

To ensure that the equipment the company specified would be available, AVI-SPL purchased and stored it until it was time to be integrated. It also negotiated extended warranties with the manufacturers.

Impact: A High-Tech Upgrade

Using the video display solutions, El Paso can stay on top of its gas operations and fluctuations in the energy market. Common areas like break rooms have been transformed with displays that offer cable TV and also allow for ad hoc presentations via laptop. Multiple conference and training rooms now feature projectors, screens and large flat panels for video conferences and presentations. Crestron RoomView allows for room scheduling and empowers IT staff to control and monitor these areas. Crestron equipment also provides centralized control of the high-definition flat panels in the common areas, while still giving employees the freedom to change channels and hook up laptops for impromptu meetings.

“We are pleased with the end result from AVI-SPL,” notes Tom LeClare, principal IT analyst for El Paso. “Our employees are enjoying the benefits of the TVs, HD video, and conference rooms where quality equipment makes for more productive meetings.”
