Scios Corporate Boardroom
Scios, Inc., Fremont, CA
Challenge:
The boardroom at the headquarters for Scios, Inc. is an outstanding example of how the convergence of audiovisual features, IT and fine architecture should be designed and installed to satisfy a client's requirements. For this project, our company was tasked with designing an AV system that would improve the effectiveness of communications between those in the boardroom.
Solution:
The solution to the design challenge was to install eleven pop-up 15" LCD monitors in the immaculate boardroom table. Meeting attendees can follow the discussion by either referencing the screens on the front wall or the pop-up LCD monitor. By using the Crestron control system and Extron matrix switchers, the LCD monitors are able to display images from any source. A custom-tailored technology cavity was integrated into the table, ensuring that the monitors could be hidden when not in use. Each cavity includes two computer interfaces so that up to 21 meeting participants can plug in their laptop to display their own presentation.
Effective videoconferencing is crucial to Scios and this boardroom is designed accordingly. A Polycom system is installed along with three Sony pan/tilt/zoom cameras. Two cameras are installed in the front. A third camera was cleverly installed directly across from a Polyvision CopyCam white board so that all attendees on a videoconference call could also view the display. Our teams also installed three large-screen displays in the front wall. The center display is a 105" rear projection screen with a Panasonic 4200-lumen, XGA projector. The left and right displays are 50" Panasonic plasma units.
Additionally, a Polycom Vortex (ASPI) system was installed for audio conferencing. Six Audio-Technica ceiling microphones were installed in a line directly over the center of the boardroom table. Eight Bose ceiling speakers were installed for voice reinforcement and two JBL speakers were installed for program sound; acoustical paneling was installed on the upper half of the boardroom walls.
