Reimagining the University Library

Reimagining the University Library

During this webinar, AVI-SPL Project Managers Mike Cenzer and Rob Thomsen look at the advanced audio visual solutions that make the new Hunt Library at North Carolina State University a model for the modern university library. With its video walls, visualization technology, and video conferencing spaces, the Hunt Library offers faculty and students flexible spaces for multimedia presentations, research and collaboration. Some of the areas we’ll touch on include the audio distribution by Biamp, AMX control system technology, the visual displays by Christie and Sharp, a SMART Technologies’ presentation system, and the video conferencing systems of Cisco.

About the presenters

Mike Cenzer, a project manager with AVI-SPL, has nearly 25 years of experience as an audio visual commercial integrator. His specialties include commercial audio/video sales, design, project management, and installation, as well as video conferencing and telepresence support.

Rob Thomsen is also a project manager with AVI-SPL, and works as part of the company’s Control Room Group division. Rob has 15 years of experience and has been with AVI-SPL for most of his career.

Gerry Pehl, design engineer for AVI-SPL in Saint Paul, Minnesota, has been involved in communication media technology since the mid 1990s. He has worked in live event production, increasingly specializing in visualization, video processing, and display technology. His experience includes the design development and commissioning of large, multi-system integrations and special applications for clients including the City of Minneapolis, and large, multinational corporations.

Understanding Projector Technology

Understanding the Benefits of LCoS and Canon Projectors

During this event, Jonathan Brawn explains projector technology, and what to look for in a projector for commercial use. Brawn explores the factors that create image quality in a projector, from the type of technology (DLP, LCD, and LCoS) to the physical construction of the lens and optical engine. He also explains why LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) is superior and demonstrate through comparisons to other projector technologies. This is followed by an examination of what benefits are gained by using Canon LCoS REALiS projectors, and the key applications where the true image quality benefits of Canon and LCoS can be applied.

About the Presenter

Jonathan Brawn is a principal of Brawn Consulting, an audiovisual consulting, educational development, and marketing firm, based in Vista, Calif. Prior to this, Jonathan was Director of Technical Services for Visual Appliances, an Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based firm that manufactures ZeroBurn plasma display technology, and successfully ran his own integration group, Brawn & Associates, serving the residential and commercial audiovisual markets. Jonathan has extensive experience in AV systems design and integration, as well as expertise in the development of educational development programs. Jonathan holds CTS certification and teaches courses at InfoComm. Jonathan was honored to receive the InfoComm 2012 Young AV Professional award.
