When Kean University recently opened its new data visualization studio, it realized its goal of a high-tech space for supporting research.  And after successfully hosting a series of interactive events, it can also inspire other higher education schools that have similar aspirations. The Visualization and Immersive Studio for Education and Research is in the Nancy Thompson Library Learning Commons on the university’s Union Campus. And not only does it look impressive, It is delivering the benefits that Kean University wanted, like help with:

  • Teaching and learning for students throughout the Kean community
  • Data analysis
  • Technologically advanced presentations

AVI-SPL is pleased to have helped Kean University achieve its vision. We designed, built, and installed the studio, which is opening new worlds of possibilities to the staff, faculty, and students.

What makes the studio special

The studio is primarily three video walls that wrap around guests. Ten laser projectors provide images to the canvas. So does a media player, which delivers custom content.

The heart of the studio is Analog Way’s Aquilon C+ multiscreen presentation system and video wall processor. The Aquilon C+ drives and processes the images and content on the screens as it also layers them from a variety of sources.

How Kean University is using its multi-functional studio

Since opening just a few months ago, the studio has hosted high-profile events:

  • An educational conference featuring 1,000 participants from around the world
  • A virtual meeting with the school’s leadership
  • Two gallery-style shows
  • An ongoing showcase of undergraduate research

The university also has plans to use the studio for cultural and arts events.

You can read more about the project in AV Network’s excellent overview. Their article includes insight from the director of digital information at The Learning Commons. You’ll learn about the inspiration for the studio and why Analog Way was the right choice for this application.
