There’s no denying that the LED video wall market is growing. In fact, a  Fortune Business Insights study indicated that the global LED Video Walls Market is projected to reach USD 36.16 Billion by 2028.

If you haven’t considered this technology for your displays and video walls, what’s stopping you? Are you a victim of dvLED misinformation? Let’s set the record straight by debunking six dvLED myths.

1. dvLED video walls are too expensive

Not in the long run. When you consider several factors, it’s more affordable than you may think. Yes, dvLED video walls can have higher upfront costs than other options like LCD screens. However, don’t forget to evaluate the total cost of ownership (TCO) when choosing a display solution.

First, how soon will you have to replace the display? A long-lasting display is a solid investment. At 70,000 to 100,000 hours, Sharp/NEC dvLED displays can have twice the lifespan of LCD.

Next, don’t forget about maintenance costs and downtime. Projectors and flat-panel displays are viable solutions; however, they often require more maintenance. Remember that, unlike LCDs, LEDs don’t have filaments you have to replace. We’ll talk more about serviceability a bit later in myth #3.

Myth debunked: Over the life of the display, your dvLED TCO may be lower than other displays.

2. Installation is too complex and takes too long

It’s not, and it doesn’t. If you choose the right solution, that is. Today’s dvLED video wall installs are a lot less complicated. When you want quick, easy installation, consider a kitted solution. Sharp/NEC video wall kits include everything you need to install a video wall, including tiles, mounting frame, and spare parts.

Once the wall and space are prepped, install time for large video walls is less than a week and can even be as little as one day. AVI-SPL and Sharp NEC engineers can help you prepare the space and ensure proper power and HVAC is in place for a smooth install.

Smaller video walls can be completed even faster. Below is an installation of a smaller video wall that took about two hours.

Myth debunked: The right solution and prep work make dvLED installs quick and easy.

3. Servicing dvLED video walls is difficult

Not anymore. Modern dvLED video walls are designed with serviceability in mind. Front-serviceable modules make maintenance easier. And Sharp/NEC solutions also have hot-swappable pixels cards you can replace without turning the display off, limiting downtime.

Myth debunked: servicing your displays and video walls is quick and easy.

4. You can’t use this tech outdoors

Sure, you can. Luckily, this is another myth. You can let your creativity flow when designing outdoor displays and video walls. Plenty of outdoor dvLED options can stand up to harsh elements like sunlight and rain. What you need to look for is high brightness and a high IP rating for outdoor LED screens, and consider the viewing distance.

Brightness is measured in nits, and generally, you’ll want 5,000 nits or more in outdoor displays. That helps you see the display in the sunlight, but what about standing up to other elements?

This is where the IP rating comes into play.

The IP rating tells how well protected the display is from dust and other objects and if it’s protected against moisture getting in. Basically, how well-sealed is the display? For example, Sharp/NEC’s Q-Series Outdoor dvLEDs have a strong IP65 rating.

In addition, considering the viewing distance is essential for outdoor use. Is the viewer reading a way-finding display up close or a billboard hundreds of feet away? Outdoor dvLED displays with different resolutions can deliver brilliant video in each situation.

Myth debunked: outdoor dvLEDs do exist.

5. dvLED video wall lacement and content design are limited

Good news on this creative front. With dvLED video walls, you can think beyond the rectangle. The tile design leaves you open to designing virtually any size video wall. The LED modules’ bezel-free design delivers seamless visuals. Flexible dvLEd can be wrapped around columns or corners. Your AVI-SPL and Sharp/NEC teams can discuss your use case and design the best format for your team’s needs.

Another thought, you must be able to service the video wall easily. As we mentioned earlier, front-serviceable modules provide more options for where install a video wall.

You can also fuel your creativity with an incredible range of color to work with when designing content. These displays deliver brilliant contrast, intensly bright images, and color saturation including deep blacks.

Myth debunked: you can realize your creative vision with dvLED.

6. I’ll never have enough fresh video content

Yes, you want to beware of stale content, or worse, no content showing the screen. Fresh content is the key to keeping your audience engaged. And, it can be taxing on your creative and support teams to create videos and format them for different screen sizes. But it’s a myth to think you have to go it alone.

The AVI-SPL VideoLink team can help. Our designers can work with you to develop content to engage your audience and meet your goals. You can also leverage our managed services to schedule and distribute your content on a single screen or several displays across various locations.

Myth debunked AVI-SPL VideoLink can help you create fresh content.
