Mission: Increase Student Participation
“This technology has helped increased our kids’ enthusiasm, as well as that of our teachers.” – Mike Rom, director, Academy at the Farm
Based in Dade City, Fla., Academy at the Farm is a unique K-8 charter school that serves nearly 400 students a year. To increase student participation and achievement, Director Mike Rom and Instructional Technology Coordinator Ray Polk sought to implement advanced classroom technologies.
Action: Interactive Boards and Digital Signs
AVI-SPL integrated SMART interactive white boards and Elmo document cameras in nearly every classroom, as well as the fitness area. The team also installed a Cisco digital signage display to greet guests and keep students and their parents informed of upcoming events.
Impact: Improved School Communications and Student Engagement
The school has improved overall communications, using the SMART Boards to stream morning and afternoon announcements.
The SMART Notebook software has proven invaluable to the Academy teachers, empowering them to watch kindergartners perfect their penmanship and to use its innovative programs to increase algebra skills among eighth graders.
“This technology has helped increased our kids’ enthusiasm, as well as that of our teachers,” says Rom.
As excitement spread over the diverse range of applications available with SMART, the school made a promise to its teachers: a SMART Board for every classroom.
