Mission: Put the Guest Experience First
The Peabody Orlando opened in November 1986, and is only the second hotel to bear the Peabody name. The original Peabody is the famous, vintage 1925 Peabody Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee, where the legend of the Peabody ducks began.
In 2008, the Orlando hotel began on a $450 million expansion and renovation in order to make it the ideal destination for meeting planners. As part of that renovation, the Peabody management team wanted the technology that would attract and accommodate business guests.
Action: Flexible Solutions for Every Need
AVI-SPL focused on providing a state-of-the-art sound system that would cover the Peabody’s 311,156 feet of new meeting, pre-function and common area spaces. The Peabody added 60 new meeting rooms, bringing the property to a total of 101. AVI-SPL selected audio systems and speakers based on whether they would be addressing indoor or outdoor areas.
“We knew our partnership with AVI-SPL was a good one. They have a proven track record.” – Brian Seays, regional IT director, Peabody Orlando Hotel
Flexibility of the solutions was among the Peabody’s top priorities.
“In a four-star, four-diamond environment, working with groups ranging from large financial companies or pharmaceutical companies to weddings, the requirements are quite different,” says Brian Seays, Peabody regional IT director. “What was more critical to us was our ability to have a reasonable solution for everyone’s needs.”
All the rooms are controlled by a Crestron control system. Within each room, a Crestron touch panel controls the background music source, local input plate controls (source, bass, treble, level), room combining, and lighting controls. AVI-SPL implemented a Media Matrix Nion System which allows any source to be transmitted to any location on the hotel property.
Peabody’s premier conference room includes rear projection, audio-video presentation capabilities, Polycom video conferencing, and system control.
Impact: An Experience That Comes in Loud and Clear
From the central rack room, digital audio and video can be sent anywhere in the Peabody’s ballrooms. This makes the Grand Ballroom an ideal area for live productions.
“We knew our partnership with AVI-SPL was a good one,” says Seays. “They have a proven track record.”
